19 February 2007 The deaths of Pat and Jean McQuillen It is with great sadness that Buxted Parish Council has to announce the sudden deaths of Patrick and Jean McQuillen. They were both tragically killed on Friday 16 February 2007 while crossing a road in Cape Town, South Africa, where they were on holiday. Jean was Chairman of the Parish Council’s High Hurstwood Ward and Vice Chairman of the Council’s Planning Committee. She was an enthusiastic, committed and highly respected member of the Parish Council. She was also an active member of the High Hurstwood community and, as Ward Chairman, represented its interests at Parish Council meetings. Pat was Treasurer of the High Hurstwood Village Hall and Fete Committees and involved in other village matters. “Both Jean and Pat were excellent and involved villagers contributing much time and effort to the good of the community. They were regular travellers, being keen to see as much of the world as they could.” said Alison Crowe, Chairman of Buxted Parish Council, “Jean’s contribution and cheerful presence on the Council will be hugely missed by her fellow Councillors; Pat’s contribution to the High Hurstwood fete and hall committees, as well as village fund-raising are irreplaceable. The whole community mourns the loss of two highly respected and well-liked people”. Our thoughts and support go out to their family and friends at this sad and difficult time. We sincerely ask that the privacy of family and friends are respected. Any condolences sent to the Parish Council will be passed on to the family. At its next meeting in March, the Parish Council will pay tribute to mark Jean’s contribution to the local community as a Parish Councillor. Funeral arrangements will be advised in due course. Alison Crowe or Mr.
