Minutes of the meeting of 18th September 2007 at 7.45pm at the Basketball Area & White Hart Pub. Present: Laura Warner, Michelle Warner, Claudia Vince, Amelia Johnson, Millie Spink, Thomas Hoggan, Simon Roys , Verity Wainright, Alice Endersby, Ruby Taylor, Charlotte Morgan, Imogen Morgan, Dani Brown, Jamie Brocett, Alison Crowe. Apologies: Ellen Smith
1. The group met at the basketball area, it was a little too dark to see, it was felt that the new facility was very good. If possible a bin was required as well as a gate between the playground and basketball area to prevent everyone jumping over the fence. 2. The group elected Simon as chair for the meeting. Dani, Imogen and Jamie were welcomed to the group and introductions made. 3. Minutes form the last meeting, these were approved. 4. Report from the Parish Council. Michelle and Alison reported that the PC was happy to take part in a quiz evening. The Parish Council have now adopted the Child Protection Policy. 5. Alison reported that Horam seemed to have a Youth Council and Mayfield- maybe Next Step could meet with these groups, maybe challenge them to a quiz. 6. Following the cancelled excursion –through lack of interest Ruby suggested we try to have the raft building at a later date. It was felt that raft building would have to wait until the spring and we could maybe have a winter outing- Ice Skating was suggested. Michelle said that this should take place when it was held during January at the Brighton Centre. 7. It was agreed that fund raising was required to purchase T-shirts for new members and to give Next Step some money for training and excursions. The favourite idea seemed to be a Fashion Show with a raffle- local businesses to be approached for prizes (Laura to arrange) plus a cake stall. 8. There was a discussion on transport. Jamie thought that there should be a bus shelter in Buxted as he frequently gets wet when waiting for the school bus. Simon reported that he has to pay to travel top school by train although he lives more than 3 miles from the school, Medlars, Church Road- his brother however is considered to live more than 3 miles away. It seems that there is no provision for post 16 transport to school/college. 9. A response to the ESCC cycling proposals was considered- it was agreed that it is too dangerous to ride on most roads, it should therefore be legal to ride on the pavement. Parked cars were a further problem. In addition this was thought to be an excuse to further deplete public transport. Verity reported a concrete boulder on the pavement near Oast Farm. 10. Long term car parking in Buxted was causing difficulties for a number of Next Step members parents. Alison explained how the soon to be introduced parking restrictions would operate.
11. The date of the next meeting will be Tues 16th October 2007 at 7.45pm at the White Hart Pub. |
