Next Step Minutes of the meeting of 20th November 2007 at 7.45pm at the White Hart Pub. Present: Laura Warner, Michelle Warner, Claudia Vince, Amelia Johnson, Simon Roys , Alice Endersby, Sam Pearson, Dani Brown, India Brown, Charlotte Morgan, Imogen Morgan. Apologies: Millie Spink, Ruby Taylor
1. The group elected Sam as chair for the meeting. 2. Minutes form the last meeting, these were approved. 3. Report from the Parish Council. Michelle reported that Next Step were not successful in being short-listed for a Young Partners Award. 4. The email from Matt Dunkley from ESCC was discussed re School Transport was discussed. It was felt that the footpath from Buxted to FAD was unsafe, particularly where the path narrows opposite Vulcan Farm and the road curves. It was also felt that it was too unsafe to cycle this route. Speed limits prevented cycling in the villages generally; Imogen thought that Limes Lane especially was unsafe. Next Step was unclear why low income families received help if they lived 2 miles from their school. It was felt that non-working parents would have more time to walk their children to school. Adult fares should be available on buses up to age 16 according to ESCC, but the 29 bus is the one most used by Next Step members and adult fares are payable at age 14 on this service. 5. Michelle reported on the ESCVYS meeting she had attended – tips on grant applications had been useful. 6. High Hurstwood Village Hall AGM. Michelle, Ruby & Laura attended. Ruby and Laura had also surveyed young people in the village, and found that 13 out of 14 would rather see a basketball area than a youth shelter. The hall committee had not been willing to give any funding but had promised their support. The Fashion show- Everyone present agreed to model 9depending on the final date), Imogen and India asked what the smallest sizes would be- Michelle to check. 7. Youth At The Table – This training for young people about chairing meetings, constitutions etc is now available for free and locally, (previously was expensive and London based). Sam will be going on a course in Brighton. 8. Wealden Play Strategy- Michelle has spoken to Helen Markwick at WDC and the Drama workshops are due to start in January and will be run by professional actors. A two hour session during the February half term has been discussed and Helen is to get back to us once the workshops are able to be booked. High Hurstwood village hall is the most likely location. 9. Ice skating – Jan 3rd 4.30 to 6pm session was decided upon- forms were given to everyone for parental consent, cost will be £8.00. Transport will be by car or bus depending on numbers. 10. Any other business- suggestions for the future- Bus shelters, more recycling centres, Netball hoop, Tennis Court. The date of the next meeting will be Tues 18th December 2007 at 7.45pm at the White Hart Pub. |
