Next Step Minutes of the meeting of 18th March 2008 at 7.45pm at the White Hart Pub. Present: Laura Warner, Michelle Warner, Amelia Johnson, Millie Spink, Thomas Hoggan, Ruby Taylor, Claudia Vince, Pete Apologies: Alice Endersby.
1. The group elected Amelia as chair for the meeting. 2. It was agreed that Pete (the barman) could join in discussions as he was 18 years old. 3. Minutes from the last meeting and the January meeting – these were agreed. 4. Parish Council report, - Michelle reported that the Parish Council working party had met with the developers of the Grampian site and the Youth Council would be involved in the play provision on the site. Suggestions for the playground included zip wire, flat roundabout- can be sat on or run on, a curling slide, a climbing wall. Millie thought bright colours should be used. Amelia said it should not be fenced and it was agreed that a fenced in area was unattractive and restrictive. It was agreed that anyone interested could meet on Friday 4th April at 1.30 (UCTC closes early) and visit Bolnore Village where there is an award winning playground. 5. Youth Opportunity Fund. The application has been successful and the money will be paid over in the next few weeks. The appraisal form was considered, this is to be returned by 8th April. It was agreed that most of it could not be completed until the basketball facility was built. Michelle to contact East Sussex to ask if the forms should be completed yet. 6. Act On It have been in touch to say that WDC would fund further sessions. It was agreed May might be a difficult month with GCSEs and other exams taking place. 7. Fashion show, the organisers are now unwilling for Next Step members to model the clothes unless 16 or over. This would mean that Alice only could model. It was decided that the event should be cancelled. Other fundraising events considered included: a band, barn dance, quiz, BBQ. It was agreed to try to have the next meeting at Buxted Pavillion as suggested by Ruby to look at it as a potential venue. 8. Village Fetes- it was agreed HH to be the same format as last year with the tin can game. Buxted- a basketball game with a prize draw for those scoring. Prize- Sports shop voucher, or basketball or cinema voucher. HH fete is first on 14th June. 9. Trips – canoeing, skiing, Knockhatch & South of England Show were suggested. Group ticket prices to be researched. 10. There were no items of any other business.
