Next Step Minutes of the meeting of 15th January 2008 at 7.45pm at the White Hart Pub. Present: Laura Warner, Michelle Warner, Amelia Johnson, Alice Endersby, Alison Crowe, Millie Spink, Sam Pearson, Jamie Grocott, Charlotte Morgan, Imogen Morgan, Ellen Smith. Apologies: Ruby Taylor, Claudia Vince.
1. The group elected Charlotte as chair for the meeting. 2. Minutes from the last meeting, these were amended to show that Millie attended the December meeting. 3. Parish Council report, - Michelle reported that Tony Reed, East Sussex County Council had attended the last Parish Council meeting and had noted the response of Next Step to Matt Dunkley re transport and age limits. Tony had been impressed by the points made. The Next Step application for £500 from the ivillages fund has been refused. It is possible to apply for funding for the High Hurstwood basketball area from the Parish Council, Michelle is to meet with a local contractor to try and obtain a lower quotation for groundwork. An application for £500 will be made to the East Sussex Youth Development Service. 4. The Ionides Trust have asked if a Next Step representative would join their committee. Sam said that he would be happy to be the representative. 5. Community Voice articles our local newsletter is always please to receive articles. Charlotte and Ellen thought that they could write a piece on the dangers of speeding traffic on the lanes particularly the dangers to riders and cyclists (Jamie). Alison said that it was advisable to report any dangerous driving if you could get the car number, and that this had proved effective in High Hurstwood. 6. Fashion Show – it was decided that May 08 would be a good time to put on this fund raiser. High Hurstwood Hall is largest but maybe too big. Alison said that she thought the reading rooms could seat 80. It was decided the reading rooms were best if we could fit enough people in with the catwalk as well. Alice agreed to take charge of advertising design. 7. Michelle said that she had been contacted by Act On It and we needed to set a date for the free drama workshop available via Wealden District Council. It was decided that the reading rooms would be easier for people to attend and a date in half – term would be good. 8. Leadership course, a residential weekend course at Hindleap Warren 15-17 Feb with a open college accreditation in leadership, including high ropes, rock climbing, zip wire, team challenges etc. Age 14-17. Charlotte and Ellen were keen to go. Michelle gave out information to be discussed with parents. The cost is £30 per person, there is £50 in the Next Step account. Alison thought that the Parish Council may be able to fund some of the cost through its training budget. Jamie thought Simon would be interested in attending the course. Michelle to find out if there are any similar courses for younger members or any indoor courses. 9. Any other business – it was agreed that use of mobiles at meeting would b subject to a £1.00 fine and the funds would be used to buy crisps.
The date of the next meeting will be Tues 26th February 2008 at 7.45pm at the White Hart Pub.
