At the first public meeting we invited those present to
help get the ball rolling by simply brainstorming
some of the issues on flip charts around the room
Below is the result
BUXTED
PARISH PLAN – OUTPUTS OF PUBLIC MEETING OF 26 NOVEMBER 2003

1.
HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
1
What is the
identified need?
2
What about
water, sewage, schools and doctors surgeries for the new housing?
3
High Hurstwood
is now close to rural suburbia – if we want a ‘balanced’ community
we must have secure affordable housing.
HH
4
Development
only after facilities available
5
Facilities
needed – roads, sewers, electricity supply, transport, pavements, road
maintenance.
6
New
developments are all very well, but in large numbers they are going to
result in more traffic on the High Street and spoil the rural views that
make our village so beautiful.
B
7
People choose
to live in a place they like, not one they want to change greatly
8
Already
overloaded sewer through Five Ash Down
FAD
9
No developments
behind The Buxted Inn that would cause further flooding to houses at
bottom of hill
B
10
No more
desecration of other housing property in favour of new build. Limit new
housing to infill only. Certainly no 80 houses behind the pub.
B
11
Impact on
traffic and whole character of village
12
If more houses
are needed in the villages they should and must be affordable
13
No development
at Five Ash Down on proposed site
FAD
14
Villages must
not be made into towns without amenities, accessibility or infrastructure
15
Development
must be matched with water/ sewerage capability
16
Why
so many planning applications in High Hurstwood to convert farm buildings
into B1/ B2 usage? Dangerous precedent is being made. Rural living at
great risk of being swamped and ruined for all time by rapid urbanisation.
HH
17
More
development in High Hurstwood entails increase in traffic. Infrastructure
of country lanes totally unsuitable to cope. Only time before walker,
rider, cyclist seriously injured or killed.

HOUSING DEVELOPMENT
1
Can we not
spend some time & money to do up some derelict buildings?
2
Insist that
housing development includes additional facilities, the only efficient way
to fund improvements
3
We need
facilities in place before development. Doctor’s surgery – could they
cope?
B
4
Some low cost
housing is no doubt a need
5
No more
‘executive’ homes in the High Street
B
6
Produce a
development control plan from Parish point of view
7
Use the action
plan to outline agreed, formal planning document and policy
8
Any
development, new or old, both built and unbuilt, should be in keeping with
the existing rural environment

A need for low
cost houses in High Hurstwood – youngsters brought up in the village
want to stay and come back – and can’t
HH
1
We need more
and far better sports / leisure facilities for the young who can’t drive
out of village
2
More publicity
needed for the many leisure activities already in Buxted (included in any
newsletters put out by Parish Council?)

Industry
should be focused in locations that have the appropriate access and
infrastructure – I second that very strongly as regards High Hurstwood, no
sustainability
HH
6
Shop open after
work hours – few people who work longer hours like to support local
services

7

No awareness of
people’s businesses locally, maybe using builders, gardeners, music
teachers et. fro outside when they are available in the villages
